Thoughts on FC Barcelona and Real Madrid! Which is really the best club?

Barcelona's Lionel Messi and
Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos

Let's get to the obvious from the get-go... Yes I am a Real Madrid die hard and yes that means I hate Barcelona more than Dane Cook hates writing his own jokes! However that does not mean I believe the team should be disrespected, after all they are the greatest assembled team in football history! (As hard as it is to be admit it).

FC Barcelona is undoubtedly going through their greatest footballing period ever, as their accurate passing, high possession and goal finishing can only be compared with the great legendary teams such as the 1970 World Cup Winning Brazil Team, The "Quinta de Buitre" Real Madrid team of the late 80's, the Cruyff influenced Ajax team of the early 70's and the Milan of the 80's and 90's. And while I believe respect should be shown Barcelona is not and cannot be top team in football... Yes I said it.

Barca fans highly believe they deserve top spot in football simply because of their recent achievements, and while they can easily claim the current best title, the best overall title is and will be Madrid's for long to come! Supporters of the Blaugrana believe Madrid's history cannot come into matter and they are simply the best club to ever exist, truth is history and trophy count plays a lot into determining the greatest club, and one season of success cannot by any means just hand you that title, what Barcelona has been achieving since 2009 Madrid have accomplished since the 50's! 109 years of building excellence cannot be swiped away with one treble winning season on the 110th anniversary of your club.

While both clubs have great history it is Real Madrid's remarkable accomplishments that easily stand out, and I believe it is why Barca fans are so quick to dismiss it, they just simply cannot accept it. Barcelona's greatest time period involved the Cruyff era, which while only accomplished 1 Liga and 1 Copa del Rey trophy, saw the greatest player to wear their jersey (Yes that includes Messi) and the creator of their youth system today, the dream team of the early 90's that gave them their very first Champions League in Wembley Stadium and finally their current form which saw them become the first team to sweep every trophy available to them by simply using players that were taught at home using the Cruyff philosophy.

Where to start on Real Madrid? You may dislike them for having the most trophies (which I will be courteous enough to not bring up), because they are the most prestigious club in the history of football or because every successful player wishes to one day wear the beauty of the most famous shirt in the world. But truth is Madrid have given SO MUCH to the football community if it was not for them such competition every team aspires to win would not even exist if it wasn't for Madrid, and that's where the main difference between Barcelona's history and ours stands. The first notable piece of accomplishment takes place the same year this great club was founded, 1902 the "Copa de Ayuntamiento de Madrid" (Which is now the "Copa de Su Majestad El Rey Don Juan Carlos I" you may know it simply as "Copa del Rey") by Real Madrid's president Carlos Padros with the idea of forming a competition that honoured the coronation of then King of Spain Alfonso XIII, the King's Cup served as Spain's Championship until the foundation of the "Campeonato de Liga" (La Liga) in 1928, the very first competition saw the first Real Madrid - Barcelona game, although was not a big deal at the time as the rivalry had not yet formed.

Fast forward 7 years, the year 1909 and Madrid become one of the founding teams of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, 1945 the first true star player of Madrid, Santiago Bernabeu Yeste (R.I.P.) becomes our President, not only A PRESIDENT but rather THE PRESIDENT that made Real Madrid who they are today, 10 years later is presented with an idea by French Journalist Gabriel Hanot of "L'Equipe", Santiago gets to work on it right away along with Bendrigan and Gusztav Sebes (Then coach of Hungary) to create a tournament of teams around the continent of Europe and yes you probably guessed it, the UEFA Champions League is born! Real Madrid with the magic of Alfredo DiStefano, Frenec Puskas and Francisco Gento would go on to win the first 5 European Cups; As if Bernabeu did not feel accomplished enough the Intercontinental Cup was founded with the help of Manchester United's president. Is it all the sudden becoming too clear to um... Non-Fans... Why we won FIFA's Best Club of the 20th Century with a WHOPPING 42.35% votes? Why is it so amazing? Second placed Manchester United received 9.69% of votes... Yes, exactly.

Alright, I'm going to stop here because well... I think I made my point and I have a feeling you're long gone by now, if you're not wow I appreciate it! Overall I'm sorry if you're a Barcelona fan, but this is why we remain, for the time being, THE BEST; I know you disagree with me and by all means tell me in the comments, I will not stop hating your club so by all means do so... If you have any positive comments even better look forward to comments and suggestions :). To Conclude HALA MADRID!!!!! Hail the greatest club in the history of football!!!
